BONDED LABOR ERADICATION PROGRAM
Program Summary
In order to eradicate trafficking of bonded children in India, JVI is advising and assisting several justice ventures in their raid, rescue, and restoration of bonded children, as well as prosecution of offenders, in the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over a two-year period. These justice ventures are Diocesan Development and Welfare Society, Society for Human Development and Women's Empowerment, and Free the Slaves.
JVI is providing pro bono professional services to these justice ventures in the form of recruitment of Indian and U.S. lawyers, investigators, social workers and businessmen to assist in different aspects of raid, rescue, restoration and prosecution. In addition, JVI is mobilizing funding to support the local delivery of legal services, training on best practices and other services to eradicate bonded child labor in India.
The project is expected to result in numerous children, as well as adults, freed and restored from bonded labor. In addition, the project aims to allow other justice ventures to replicate the work of the justice ventures currently involved in the project.
